Stop biting your nails, an impossible challenge? Here are 10 tips to try before talking about impossible.
What’s uglier than a pretty ring on ugly fingers?
Nail biting has a scientific name: onychophagy. Nearly one in three French people bite their nails or have experienced a period during which they bite their nails. Also at a time when France is confined because of the coronavirus pandemic, which is, let’s not hide it, a real source of anguish, here are 10 tracks to explore to finally have a chance to let our nails grow…

1. Get a manicure as soon as possible :
Wearing nail polish doesn’t encourage nail biting, but if it’s superbly done, it’s even worse. Whether you’ve spent money on a manicure in a salon or the operation took an hour and a half, you don’t usually want to ruin everything. So we force ourselves, once a week if possible, to get a real manicure with nail care.
2. Use bitter varnish
It’s not a recent trick, but it works! Yes, it’s not good bitter varnish. Well, for it to work, you have to reapply it regularly, of course…

3. Take it easy
To stop biting your nails the next day is quite difficult and too abrupt for many people. So why not set more achievable goals? So, starting with a nail that you leave alone is a good option and becomes a great motivation when you see how beautiful a nail in great shape is!
4. Keep nails short
It’s quite simple… the longer they are, the greater the temptation to gnaw at them. So, as long as the habit is still there, we don’t try to let them grow and we keep them short (1 millimeter of white is good).

5. Involve family and friends
Alerting our friends and family to our challenge means giving them the opportunity to help us by letting us know every time we bite our nails without realizing it. What if we do notice? Then, we ask these same family members to support us by changing our ideas, for example.
6. Chewing gum
The chewing of a chewy paste will always be preferable to your poor little nails already cruelly cut in addition.
Finally, you have to be patient, we’re not going to lie to each other: it’s not because you stop biting your nails that you have beautiful hands the next day. The regrowth takes a little time and you have to wait a while before you get pretty nails. But it’s worth it, really!
