Yellow Limestone Traces: How to Easily Clean the Toilet Bowl

Have you just moved in to find dirty toilets with traces of yellowish, brownish scale? Try these effective tips …

Besides causing hygiene problems, tartar, lime and yellow marks are not the best effect in our toilets! Let’s see what tricks exist to detach the WCs and make the bottom of the bowl very white.

Lime can build up quickly on faucets, showers, sinks and in toilets. over time, it can leave rust and scale stains that are very unsightly and often extremely difficult to remove.

Nowhere is this more problematic than in toilets, which are widely used and which constantly retain standing water. Not to mention, that the porosity of limestone is a real nest for bacteria and bad smells.

Although there are many commercial cleaning products that can remove lime stains from toilets, several natural household products can be just as effective in getting rid of this brown lime scale without harmful chemicals.

Baking soda and white vinegar

Baking soda and vinegar are two of the most useful household products that can be used to clean up a lot of things, like lime deposits in the toilet.

  1. Pour about 1 cup of vinegar into the toilet bowl and shake it with a toilet brush. Let stand for about 1 minute.
  2. Add about 1 cup of baking soda to the bowl, then add 1 to 2 more cups of vinegar. This will create a sparkling action. Let the solution sit for about 10 minutes.
  3. Use a toilet brush to agitate the solution around the bowl, making sure to rub on any stains that are on the walls above the waterline. Do not flush the toilet.
  4. Let the solution of vinegar and baking soda sit for up to 30 minutes, stirring once or twice until the stain is gone.
  5. If stains remain, scrub them with the toilet brush or a stiff bristle nylon brush.
  6. Flush the toilet

The toilet paper tip!

A simple way to clean the lime spots on the vertical parts, where the product can not act remain for a long time , is to apply a little anti-lime mixture (seen on this page). put toilet paper on on it, which will remain stuck on the surface. Spray over a little more cleaning product, it will stay in contact with the lime and have time to act to decalcify everything properly. Smart isn’t it?

Tip: While you take out the baking soda and vinegar, take the opportunity to tap the tap on the bathroom sink.

Borax and vinegar

Borax is an excellent all-purpose cleaning product that can be used effectively to clean lime stains in toilets and other plumbing fixtures.

  1. Pour 1/4 cup of Borax into the toilet bowl and agitate with the toilet brush.
  2. Add 1 cup of vinegar and let the mixture sit in the bowl for about 20 minutes.
  3. Finish by scrubbing the bowl with a toilet brush to remove stains. Flush the toilet to flush.

Borax paste

For stubborn lime stains, try using borax paste.

  1. Turn off the water supply to the toilet at the appliance’s shut-off valve, then flush the toilet to empty the bowl. This is necessary so that the lime stains are not covered with water.
  2. Make a paste by mixing 1/2 cup of Borax and enough vinegar to form a thick paste.
  3. Immediately spread the paste on the lime stains of the toilet so that they are completely covered by the paste. The Borax will harden quickly, so do not add the vinegar until you are ready to apply the paste.
  4. Let the dough rest for 15 to 20 minutes.
  5. Remove the paste and stains by scrubbing with a stiff bristle nylon brush.
  6. Flush the toilet to flush.

Rub with glass wool

Another option for scrubbing very stubborn lime stains in toilets is steel wool of quality 000 (quality 000 is the finest). Steel wool can be cleaned alone or with clean water, but you can also use it with household cleaners. Be sure to use quality steel wool 000 to avoid scratching the surface of the porcelain.

Have you tried Coca Cola?

To clean the toilet bowl, some use coca-cola, it’s also a famous grandmother’s trick! We agree that it costs more than vinegar, but it can help out if we have more scale. It’s the same for the method:

  1. Close your water supply, empty the toilet flush and pour your coke in the bottom of the bowl,
  2. leave on overnight
and in the morning, rub vigorously with the brush before flushing.

Clean the toilet regularly

It is not necessary to use powerful and expensive chemicals to prevent lime stains in the toilet. Borax, vinegar and baking soda do a great job of cleaning and disinfecting. Used regularly, they will prevent lime spots from accumulating.

To help keep your toilet clean and free of scale buildup, try regular cleaning with Borax, which can help soften lime and remove it easily.

Just use 1/4 cup of Borax each time you clean it.
